Eating Disorder Recovery

Eating disorder recovery is possible. It requires hope, a solid and secure basis from which to live, supporting relationships with others, coping skills, and finding meaning.

Eating disorders are usually accompanied by other mental problems and issues. Eating disorders can strike anywhere, any time, anybody, in any household. Before any eating disorder becomes a disorder it is a thinking disorder. Eating disorder recovery means living without obsessing about food, weight and body image.

Warning!
If you have the least suspicion that you, or someone close to you is in medical danger, contact a physician right now. Eating disorders can kill, and if you or someone close to you is already in trouble, get medical attention, not self-help tips.

Eating disorder as a thinking problem

Eating disorders are not a disease that attacks the body from outside. They are attack you by a germ, they are not contagious. They are a thinking problem. Eating disorders are seen by their victims as a solution. An eating disorder is a solution to a problem that does not exist anywhere but in the mind of the individual.

The problem is caused by wanting to conform to the 'new feminine ideal' of physical shape that is determined by many sources in our culture.

The 'new feminine ideal' as portrayed by TV, movies, advertising, magazine articles and so on is so ridiculously out of reach that the only way to achieve such an ideal is through methods that can kill: E.D.'s can kill you.

While eating disorders start out as a thinking problem it quickly becomes a physical problem. When the body is starved the whole body is affected. The brain can't think properly -- fear of gaining weight dominates all conscious thought.

Suffering isn't ennobling, recovery is.

Effects of eating disorders

Depression, moodiness, grumpiness, poor memory, fainting are all characteristic of the chemical changes that are occurring in the brain.

Your hair will get thin and brittle, your heart rate slows and the beat becomes irregular, your blood becomes anemic, your muscles become weak and flaccid, your joints will swell, your bone will become less dense -- prone to breaking, your kidneys can develop stones or even stop working, essential minerals drop to dangerously low levels, your hormones stop being produced normally, and your skin will become dry, bruising easily, with nails becoming brittle.

As you can imagine, eating disorders can become a rather unattractive, unhealthy and serious condition. This makes eating disorder recovery that much more important and serious.

Resolution / Solution

It seems a bit far fetched to think that something like affirmations could help with eating disorder recovery but they can!! It is after all, a condition based in the mind.

The physical problems associated with eating disorders need to be treated by a medical professional, but the mind can definitely be helped by training it to think properly about food, self image, self esteem, and self confidence.

So how do you deal with an eating disorder? What should your first step be?

The problem exists begins and ends in the mind -- it is the result of your thoughts and nothing else. To alleviate the symptoms of your eating disorder you absolutely must change your thoughts.

The fastest and most effective way to deal with the disordered mind is to change thoughts by using affirmations. Affirmations combined with brainwave entrainment. Entrainment will put the mind into a receptive state and affirmations will inject healing, calming thoughts into the subconscious mind.

The result will be recovery from eating problems without the need for years of trips to the psychiatrist's couch. Do you want relief from your eating disorder? Do you want your life back again? Include affirmations with entrainment in your battle to defeat your demon.
