Self image improvement is possible. It can be done painlessly, quickly and effectively. No one is born with a poor self image. We learn that along the way. At some point in our journey someone has dealt us a harsh blow and our self image has been vandalized -- marred beyond recognition. The way others see us is rarely as bad as we see ourselves and if we see ourselves in a poor light it is going to be reflected in the way we live.

A poor self image is going to be bequeathed to your children. They model you. You can nag them, berate them, and even encourage and praise them but they learn much more from what you do, than what you say. Is a poor self-image something you want to saddle your kids with? Hopefully not.

The results of a poor self image overflow into all areas of life. Into relationships, into our careers, it is like a nasty fog that creeps in and stains everything it touches. Self image improvement is a great gift to give yourself and by doing so you will be giving a great gift to your loved ones and the community around you. The world in which you live needs you to have a better self image.

To get going on the road to self image improvement you are going to have to look inside and determine some very important things. The best way to determine these very important things is to ask yourself some pointed questions:

  • What can you give?
  • When your self image is healthy you realize you have something to offer the world - what is it?
  • What are your greatest needs?
  • When your deepest needs are unmet your self image will suffer. Get those needs met
  • What are your mental habits?
  • Determine to make time to train your mind in healthy positive ways.
  • What's your purpose?
  • A life without goals and achievement will destroy self respect and a positive self image. Determine what your purpose is - and go for it
  • What's your personal code?
  • What is most important to you? Family? Your Spirit? Learning? Any thing you do that doesn't line up with what's important to you needs to be viewed with an eye to get rid of it.
  • What is your passion?
  • Only you can decide what you enjoy and who you truly are. Limiting yourself through a poor self image will create doubt and a lack of enthusiasm. Express who you really are - assert the real you.
  • What are your strengths?
  • What are your gifts? Talents? Everyone has something they are good at. Be honest with yourself and honor the gifts and talents you have. Find ways to use them share what you have with others
  • A strong, positive self-image is the best possible preparation for success.

    Doing some soul searching is always a good exercise but don't leave it there. Now you need to take action. Make a decision to do something about the state you are in. The path to a distant objective is always one step at a time. Take the first step, then take another and another. Before long you will be where you want to be. The price you will pay for not taking that first step is to remain right where you are. Self image improvement is the first step on the path.

    Congratulations! You made it this far are you ready for the next bit? Self image is determined by what you think. That seems like a painfully obvious statement doesn't it? It is. So the obvious question then, is 'how do we change our minds?'. Changing one's mind is easy. We just decide. But wait a minute, is there an exception to that? Actually, there is. Changing your mind with a conscious decision is great, it is the right thing to do, the correct first step. However, we all know that will power alone doesn't cut it. Will power is a result of the conscious mind making a decision to do something.

    Why doesn't will power work? It's because while your conscious mind my decide to change but your subconscious mind has not been convinced, and it is your subconscious mind that serves up your daily habits, including thought habits. If your subconscious mind has not been programmed to direct your habits in the new way it is going to direct your habits and behaviours in the old way creating the results you have always had.

    Here is where things get interesting. You have the ability to program and change your mind with relative ease. Of course thought patterns and habits that have been imbedded in your mind for decades are going to take a little longer to root out but it can be done. It is done with affirmations for self image improvement.

    Affirmations are simply statements that may not be true at the moment but that you want to be true. They can also be statements that are true but that you don't believe. These statements represent a re-scripting of your mind. Your subconscious will bend and accept them with repetition. Your subconscious does not determine what it does or doesn't accept as true it's just slow to respond. It will respond to the dominant conscious thought.

    When you change your dominant conscious thought your subconscious will notice and adapt - over time. The consequence is that your thought habits will change and your behaviour will change. When your dominant conscious thought is centered on self image improvement your self image will improve! It's that simple.
