Failure Patterns

Failure patterns. All over this web site you will find the statement that - what you think about you will become. So this particular page begs the question -

Why a page about failure?

Success is simply the process of not failing. So while it is not wise to dwell on failure it is good to know what to avoid. Once a pattern has been identified it becomes easier to recognize it in yourself. Once a pattern is recongnized on oneself, you can create a positive plan to change that patter and create a positve and healthy pattern to replace it.

Success comes to those who have a plan and work that plan.

Patterns

Just as there are patterns for success there are also patterns that ensure failure:

  • Self-Image of a Failure
  • Exaggerated Mental Images, Sounds & Feelings Of Failure
  • Blame shifting
  • Self Doubt
  • Positive Anchors to Unsupportive Tasks, People & Places
  • Negative Anchors to Supportive Tasks, People & Places
  • Worry
  • Being Overwhelmed by to-do lists & decisions that have to be made.
  • Exaggerating Mistakes, Setbacks & Delays
  • Disaster Thinking
  • Chronic Stress & it's physical symptoms
  •

Failure should be our teacher, not our undertaker. Failure is delay, not defeat. It is a temporary detour, not a dead end. Failure is something we can avoid only by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing.

    - Denis Waitley

These failure patterns are usually accompanied by some or all of the following....

Bad Habits. The teeming masses of humanity operate by habit - doing the 'same-old, same-old' every day. It might seem easier and more comfortable but this will guarantee the 'same-old' results - failure.

    No persistence.

Without a 100% commitment to personal improvement the inclination to give up, to quit, pack it in, or see the hoped for outcome as hopeless is almost guaranteed. A lack of persistence. is primarily due to:

    - Losing sight of the goal, and the all compelling “why”.

Without the 'Why?' the reason to eat less, exercise every day, to quit smoking, etc. is gone.

This leaves the individual focused on what s/he has to do and not the benefits of why s/he has to do this.

    - Giving up over the loss of a single battle.

Thinking that it is the same as losing the whole war; whether it is the infamous diet war, quit smoking war, … or whatever.

Trauma from experiencing the first set-back after starting a self improvement campaign -

Few are ready to accept the reality of a set-back after turning over a new leaf. In our modern world and culture, people demand to getting what they want and expect to get it now. The expectation is to get instant results in an instant.

Self-improvement techniques & programs are allowed just one try and of course it never works....

Failure prone people are not willing to accept failure at any level whatsoever. They won't practice. They won't repeat.

They forget that when they were babies they learned to walk not by walking perfectly the first time they tried but by trying, falling, down getting up, and trying again, and again, and again, and again...

The expectation is that they won’t fail at all or if they do it is the fault of the the self-improvement technique or program.

Unwillingness to face the pain of change

Self-Improvement means change; it requires change. Change means getting out of the “comfort zone” and into the “ouch zone”. Any endeavour will require overcoming inertia and facing the challenge of new and unfamiliar experiences.

The best way to blow away failure patterns in your life is to use well crafted affirmations for radical success. Replace those failure patterns with success patterns! Do it now - do it today - get on your way!
