2. Discuss the issues you've identified with people you trust.

Get the issues out in the open. You won't know how to build self confidence untill you do. You will find that people who care about you will have a markedly different opinion of your issues than you do. Trust them. If the people you trust and believe care about you are insulting and negative get them out of your life - they are toxic. Be radical there is no reason good enough to keep toxic people in your circle of friends. Dump them. True friends will encourage you and help you to reprogram that voice in your mind. Choose to believe the positive.

3. Consider reality

No one is perfect. There will always be someone who can perform better, who looks better, is smarter, has more friends and so on. It is foolishness to compare yourself to anyone else. Comparing yourself to others will prevent you from learning how to build self confidence. You are the standard by which you should judge yourself. Can you do better? If you can then make changes to improve. If you can not, then accept the fact and look for the positive in it. For instance there is nothing you can do about your skin colour. There is nothing you can do about your eye colour or hair colour. You can not make yourself taller or shorter. Be realistic - some things are less than perfect but you can not change them. Bruce Lee was a formidable world famous martial artist yet he was very short sighted and unbalanced.

4. Focus on Success.

Everyone has done something well at some point in life. Take pride in what you do well. Do what you are passionate about. 5. Be grateful

If you live in North America or Europe, you are among the top 5% of the worlds wealthiest people. You have much to be grateful for. Giving thanks for what you do have, counting the blessings you already experience will offset the feeling that you don't have enough, or that you are somehow incomplete. Gratitude will add to your sense of inner peace and give you poise in public.

6. Develop the habit of positive thinking.

This habit may be the hardest to develop but it is the most rewarding. A positive attitude will fix your personal growth in a positive direction. It will also train those around you to think of you in positive terms and in turn they will start to give you compliments. If you love and believe in yourself others will follow suit.

7. Receive compliments with humility and grace.

When someone takes the trouble to compliment you reinforce the truth of that compliment in their mind as well as yours by simply saying 'Thank-you' and giving them a smile in return.

8. Smile

Smile at others and they will smile back at you. Smile at yourself in a mirror and you'll experience positive feedback, you'll feel happier and more confident the more you do it. Make it a habit.

9. Fake it.

Fake it till you make it. This is similar to smiling at others and yourself. Behaving as if you are confident has the effect of making you believe that you are confident. Try it - pretend that you are a mega-confident version of your self. See what happens.

10. Give

Give of your time, your abilities, you money, or whatever you have to offer. When you are kind to others and make a positive difference in their lives you will feel much better about yourself.
